This command will set the internal control device index to a value between zero and seven.

A value between zero and seven, zero being the first detected controller and seven being the eighth

This command does not return a value.

You can use this command prior to calling SET CONTROL DEVICE or any of the joystick/control device commands to allow support for multiple control devices such as two controllers playing against each other.
